Developments in advanced nuclear technologies (ANTs), and particularly in small modular reactor (SMR) design are transforming the role that nuclear energy will play in the future energy landscape. They are also broadening the types of organisations, investors, supply chains, and other stakeholders that are considering becoming involved with ANT energy projects.
Much of the discussion about the potential routes and timescales for large-scale deployment of ANTs has centred on the technical merits of the multiple designs and technologies. However, many organisations are unclear around aspects of some other key stages on the journey to commercial deployment of ANT designs and energy projects.
In this free webinar, Prospect Law’s nuclear energy specialists will aim to highlight some of the key regulatory, licensing, waste management and insurance issues.
It will be of great interest to anyone who needs to understand more about the important questions, potential obstacles, and steps that need to be navigated on the route to commercial deployment of advanced nuclear technologies.
Our team of nuclear energy specialists will be sharing their expertise on each of the topic areas including:
Regulatory and licensing considerations
- How will national and international legislative and regulatory systems deal with ANTs?
- What are the steps involved and how long can they take?
Radioactive waste considerations
- What are the challenges of dealing with waste arising from ANT reactors?
- How will they affect the feasibility of ANT projects?
Risk and liability considerations
- How insurable will ANTs be?
- How will they be designated in terms of third party liability? How will that affect the feasibility of ANT energy projects?
