Applications for naturalisation or registration under the British Nationality Act 1981

This type of work typically costs between £600 and £1750, exclusive of disbursements and VAT (see below for more detail).

A note on value added tax (VAT) – Charging VAT in relation to immigration matters may depend on where you live and what immigration permission you have. We will confirm whether VAT (at a rate of 20%) is payable when you instruct us and we can work out if VAT is properly chargeable.

The exact number of hours needed will depend on the circumstances of your case, such as:

  • the amount of supporting evidence that we need to consider
  • Which language(s) you speak
  • Whether you clearly qualify for citizenship
  • Whether you already have achieved the necessary English qualifications
  • Whether you wish to apply on behalf of your children

If you are able to provide sufficient evidence at our first meeting, and you clearly meet the relevant citizenship requirements, the cost is likely to be at the lower end of this range.

What services are included

The work will involve:

  • Discussing your circumstances and the requirements in detail, and confirming whether you qualify for citizenship
  • If you do not yet fulfil certain requirements, whether this can be overcome and how. This takes 1 hour on average
  • Considering the documents you have provided, which normally takes 1 hour
  • Preparing your application and submitting it on your behalf, which typically takes 1-3 hours
  • Providing advice about the outcome of your application and any further steps you need to take
  • In certain cases we will need to consider your immigration history, which might mean making a subject access request on your behalf. This can cause a delay of a month or more in submitting your application. The subject access file will also need to be assessed once received, which can take 1-3 hours

Excluded from the costs estimate is the following:

  • Where the Home Office refuse your application, advice and assistance in relation to any review or appeal

Disbursements (also not included in the above costs estimate)

Disbursements are costs related to your matter that are payable to third parties. We handle the payment of any disbursements on your behalf, to ensure a smoother process.

  • Interpreters’ fees at £15-30 per hour: This kind of application will normally require between 1-2 hours with an interpreter, depending on the complexity of your case. You are not obliged to use an interpreter of our choosing and may also bring a friend to interpret for you if you prefer.
  • The Home Office fees for making the application. You will pay this to the Home Office directly as part of the application process.

How long will my application take?

We cannot guarantee how long the Home Office will take to process your application. Read the current processing times.

We will normally be able to submit this type of application within 1-2 weeks of receiving your instructions, but we will let you know at the earliest opportunity if further time is likely to be necessary.

Please note these fees are estimate only based on the facts above. All applications vary and we can give you a more accurate estimate once we are fully informed about your case.

Hourly Rates

Our rates typically range from £125 an hour to £450 an hour depending on matters such as the level of experience of the person dealing with the matter and location. These rates exclude VAT. We do on occasion offer alternative charging arrangements such as fixed fees.
