Developments in advanced nuclear technologies (ANTs), and particularly in small modular reactor (SMR) design are transforming the role that nuclear energy will play in the future energy landscape. They are also broadening the types of organisations, investors, supply chains, and other stakeholders that are considering becoming involved with ANT energy projects.
Much of the discussion about the potential routes and timescales for large-scale deployment of ANTs has centred on the technical merits of the multiple designs and technologies. However, many organisations are unclear around aspects of some other key stages on the journey to commercial deployment of ANT designs and energy projects.
